World Series Game 7 Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The thrilling 11-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run averaged a total over 50 million watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball announced this is the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable game drew 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed fourth, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game averaged over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game series averaged 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience increases for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the complete American viewership was over 16 million. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million viewers, an 8% rise compared to last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
